1886' from state of Pennsylvania 157cm x 142 cm

Getting into the Industrial Revolution, United States entered wonderful Victorian period. Victorian crazy quilt was made using quality fabrics like velvet, silk and brocade from dresses. Randomly pieced fabrics were fitted together with others like a jigsaw puzzle, and it became a solid masterpiece of elegant quilt. As more Americans became rich, sumptuousness was coveted. It brought a dramatic change in quilt making as it was starting to view as an art rather than a utilitarian craft. Decorative aspect was improved with embroidery or stitch work. After 1885', crazy quilt became quite a fad and was often used as tapestry. This quilt contains picture fabrics which was very rare at that time.
